AthenaTrial: Enrolling patients at the Anna Hospital in Geldrop

This clinical study was initiated in August 2025 at the Anna Hospital in the Netherlands under supervision of Dr. Rintje Agricola. It investigates a new surgical technique for the treatment of symptomatic hip dysplasia in adults, using the 3D-printed 3D Shelf. This study aims to investigate whether the 3D shelf can provide a less invasive alternative to the current standard procedure, the periacetabular osteotomy. 

The 3D Shelf is custom-made for each patient and aims to improve the support and coverage of the femoral head. The implant has been extensively tested in mechanical laboratory studies and animal research and will now be used for the first time in patients.

A first group of five patients is currently being enrolled.
